VIET NAM CIRCULAR ECONOMY FORUM 2022
Net Zero Emissions – From Commitment to Action

On June 28 th , 2022, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment organized the “Viet Nam Circular Economy Forum 2022: Net Zero Emission – From Commitment to Action” with participation of government leaders, representatives of development partners, Ambassadors, representatives of enterprises, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), universities, research institutes and leading experts on circular economy.
At the Forum, national and international partners are expected to exchange sharing about successful circular economy (CE) models in the world and in the region and based on that, identify suitable models that can be applied in Viet Nam. The Forum is also a great opportunity for all parties to exchange and discuss about mechanisms, policies and financial resources to promote the CE models, thereby enhancing cooperation and mobilizing resources, especially from the private sector in the development and implementation of the CE model in Viet Nam to achieve the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
Besides the plenary session, the Forum also includes thematic sessions focusing on the following contents: (i) Promoting cooperation in CE through establishment of network of partners, knowledge sharing; (ii) Financing and green technologies; (iii) Circular economy in practice and (iv) Promoting CE approach to reduce adverse effects of plastic pollution to health. At the Forum, nearly 20 exhibition booths are expected to present to all participants the demonstration of CE concepts, approaches and successful models.
At the Summit on climate change within the framework of COP26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has announced Viet Nam’s strong commitments to tackle climate change, emphasizing with its own resources, along with the cooperation and support from the international community, especially developed countries, both in terms of finance and technology transfer, including implementing mechanisms under the Paris Agreement, Viet Nam will develop and implement strong emissions reduction measures to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
“ Article 142 of the Law on Environmental Protection, adopted by the National Assembly on November 17, 2020, clearly states that Ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and provincial People’s Committees shall incorporate circular economy immediately at the stage of formulating a development strategy, planning, plan, program, and project; managing, reusing and recycling waste; every production, business and service establishments shall establish a management system and take measures to reduce extraction of natural resources, reduce waste and increase waste recycling and reuse from setting up a project and designing a product or goods to production and distribution .” Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha stated.
“ Trong thời gian qua, Bộ Tài nguyên và Môi trường đã phối hợp với Chương trình phát triển Liên hợp quốc (UNDP), Đại sứ quán Hà Lan và các đối tác phát triển xây dựng cổng thông tin về KTTH để chia sẻ kiến thức về KTTH, cập nhật các mô hình KTTH đã được triển khai thành công và tạo lập mạng lưới để thúc đẩy và nhân rộng mô hình KTTH tại Việt Nam “, bà Caitlin Wiesen, Trưởng đại diện thường trú UNDP tại Việt Nam nhấn mạnh .
Mr. Roongrote Rangsiyopash – President and CEO of SCG shared: “ Circular Economy requires close collaboration between companies, customers, supply chain and players along the value chains. The joints efforts and collaboration between MONRE and Thailand Supply Chain Network in making this event a reality is a clear example. Thai businesses are willing and working together with Vietnamese counterparts to promote more circular economy in practices. Our goal is to grow together and working toward future sustainability. I believe that this will be an important part of greater sustainability and achievement of Net Zero goal in the future. ”
