December 20th, 2022 – The Central Association Council in collaboration with SCG held the SCG Sharing the Dream 2022 scholarship program for pupils, students under the theme “Sustainable Future Starts From Your Dreams”. The program provided scholarships to 100 pupils and 100 students nationwide along with post-scholarship training activities worth a total of 2 billion VND. The program reaffirms the commitment of the Central Association Council and ESG strategy of SCG in empowering the young generation to realize their “big dreams” for a sustainable future of the country. This marks an important milestone in the 15-year journey of SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship.
In recent times, representing the voices of children’s aspirations, protecting young students’ rights and benefits, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Central Association Council have directed all levels of Youth Union and Association to effectively implement targets and projects towards supporting disadvantaged children; calling for socialization resources from agencies, organization, businesses, and individuals to build funds and projects to support disadvantaged children. However, there are still pupils and students with extremely difficult circumstances in poor rural, mountainous, remote areas… who dream of being able to continue their schooling and enjoy it. Beyond that, the children’s future dreams will require a lot of sharing and companionship from benefactors.
SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship has been a flagship CSR project of SCG since 2007. During the past 15 years, the program has supported more than 5,000 scholarships for students nationwide with a total value of 2 billion VND. Beside the program’s core values, an initiative of SCG this year’s scholarship of SCG is the partnership of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union – the Central Association Council and an online tutoring platform – Asknow supporting 24/7 for pupils in their education. SCG Sharing the Dream 2022 scholarship for pupils, students with difficult circumstances rewarded 100 scholarships worth 2 million VND each for disadvantaged pupils. Furthermore, students who received scholarships will be supported by the Asknow 24/7 online tutoring application, as well as a set of 36,000 questions worth VND 270 million. This is geared toward providing opportunities for students to learn more effectively, laying the groundwork for a more sustainable future. For students in their first to third years at public universities majoring in Engineering, Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, and economic groups, design, environment, and medicine, this year’s program provided 100 scholars worth 15 million VND each. Especially, under the theme “Sustainable Future Starts From Your Dreams”, students who received scholarship have chances to join many engagement activities during the program, including training courses “Competencies for social innovators” to incubate their ideas and skills through realistic social projects; implementing ESG projects in the community funded by SCG; or ESG Tour for SCG’s green activities nationwide.
Mr. Praween Wirotpan, Deputy General Director of SCG Vietnam, shared: “We all know that education is the key answer for a sustainable future. SCG Sharing The Dream is the scholarship program that gives students education opportunities, empowering them to reach their dreams and finally contribute to Vietnam’s future. Through 15 years, the program has supported more than 5.000 students in all parts of the country. Many of whom have succeeded in their fields and even been able to give back to their communities.
These years, all over the world has faced many serious issues and great challenges in economic, environmental and social aspects, SCG Sharing the Dream is also moving into a new direction. This scholarship aimed to encourage students to be responsible for the environment, social and provide education opportunities to reduce inequalities according to the ESG guidelines with 4 pathways including Set Net zero, Go Green, Reduce Inequality and Embrace the Collaboration based on fairness and transparency which is at the heart of the business operation of SCG”
Nguyen Hai Nam (Hai Duong province) , a final-year student majoring in Information Technology of Thuy Loi University (Hanoi), has received SCG Sharing the Dream 2022 scholarship. With his desire for learning and self-improvement, Nam overcame a traumatic brain injury when in high school and successfully passed the university entrance exam to his dream school with high scores. With aspirations to become an artificial intelligence (AI) engineer, Nam adored the notion of developing a “A tutoring application connecting the community with the disabled”, in order to assist disadvantaged people in his community, thereby creating a fair social network for sustainable learning and mutual development.
Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao (Bac Ninh province) currently studies at the University of Architecture (Hanoi) with a dream of becoming an architect in the future by introducing sustainable energy use and green living to the neighborhood. During periods of studying and researching, sustainable designs, as well as the balance between humans and the environment, are the direction for all of her research assignments and projects. Thanks to the idea of revitalizing a plot of land to restore outdated structures in order to provide leprosy sufferers with a more suited living environment, Thao has been recognized by global professionals.
Nguyen Bui Anh Duy (Ninh Thuan Province) is a prime example of a student who engages in a variety of extracurricular activities at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education with the desire of reducing agricultural waste and producing eco-friendly goods. Due to his persistence and concern for environmental issues, Duy made an impression with the topic “Extracting starch from avocado seeds applied to bioplastic manufacture” with a good biodegradation rate to protect the environment. In the future, Duy hopes to reduce avocado waste in the city by implementing the biofilm effort toward biodegradable packaging applications rather than the current long-lasting packaging such as PP, PE, PVC… from Nano Cellulose fiber extracted from avocado peel.
In order to receive these timely support, the Central Youth Union and Central Association Council would like to thank SCG Vietnam for participating in activities to accompany and support pupils, students. The Central Association Council wishes these practical support activities to be a meaningful gift for pupils and students who have the motivation to strive and study hard, which helps them become successful and beneficial people for the community.
